Who We Are
Coast Hills Community Church (CHCC) is a local body unaffiliated with any other church or denomination. The leadership group for CHCC is the group of elders. CHCC is a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Oregon. In addition to the elders there is a servant group of deacons. The body does not have a formal membership and the corporation does not have members.
The leadership strategy at CHCC is a servant model articulated by Jesus Christ in Luke 22:26. Elders and deacons are to perform their functions in light of Christ’s expression in this passage. We have different leadership teams you can get involved with. Leadership is also a spiritual gift specifically listed in the New Testament Romans12:8, so we want to help you develope that gift. Part of the ministry strategy of CHCC is to equip each individual believer to serve God under the control of the Spirit in service in areas of their unique gifting mix. In service to God each believer will be called upon to exercise elements of leadership as a servant. God will provide for each believer in their unique and valuable service opportunities where we must make choices in relationships with other persons to love them ahead of ourselves. In summary, the role of the leader is to build up others.
Our Lead Pastor at Coast Hills is Dean Yoder, Dean has a desire to see people encouraged, raised up and equiped in a powerful and authentic way. His desire is to see the goodness of God displayed to bring impact and transformation to our lives and our communities. We believe nothing is impossible with God.
Dean and his wife Beth currently serve with Pat George and make up our Elder/Senior leadership Team. Dean also works as a firefighter at Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, and Pat is recently retired. We are constantly evaluating our current needs at Coast Hills and the leadership growth as needed to accomodate changing needs. Romans 12:4-6
Each Individual at CHCC
Each individual believer who is part of the body has great value to the lives of others at CHCC. Each person has an individual mixture of spiritual gifts, life experiences, personality, character development, calling and passions in their heart from God for ministry. Each believer is at a different location on the continuum of the development of Christlikeness in their walk with God in Christ. Each believer is to be led by the Holy Spirit individually to progress to maturity as a child of God. The role of a leader is to assist each individual believer in this process of maturity and learning to be led by the Holy Spirit for herself or himself. The role of the leader is to make each individual successful in service. A leader is to make each individual more important to the body in Christ.
Equipping each believer to be led by the Spirit in character development, Christlikeness and service are goals of CHCC. Each individual should have their spiritual gifts identified and developed; their own strengths and weaknesses understood and submitted to Christ in the Spirit; assisted and released to serve in an area where Christ has provided passions in their heart.
Strategy in the Body
To develop each individual in maturity in Christ there are ministry gift areas in the body today including apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers. These ministry gifts will be expressed in relationships and programs. The strategic programs in each area will change to meet the needs and requirements of the persons to be served. The expressions will also change in types of ministry depending upon the way God uses the person serving. For example, the need for teaching and the teaching program will change in consideration of the ability, depth and maturity of the teacher and in consideration of the needs of the students as they grow to be like Christ.
Basic Core Values
There are basic character traits and core values that are to be ours as part of the nature of God in each of us. As we are conformed to be like Him, we should live in basic core values. These values are lived from the heart to the outside; out of our innermost being our values are expressed. As we live our values in relationships our wills and our minds are engaged. The core values a CHCC include nonnegotiable love for others, integrity, forgiveness, openness and honesty, listening, accountability to each other, speaking the truth in love, being positive and encouraging.
Programs and Activities
Life in Christ is lived in relationships. The gifts of the Spirit are meant to be interactive with other believers. The fruit of the Spirit in the growth of character to Christlikeness are meant to be practiced in relationships with other people. Our response to Christ is expressed in worship and giving to meet the needs of others. Programs and activities are to be cause believers to be interactive with each other in their gifts. Programs and activities are to provide opportunities for each person to practice love for each other in friendship.
The programs and activities at CHCC are to be intentional. The intentions are to experience the expressions of abundant life in Christ that come out of relationships. Each activity and program should have identifiable and reviewable goals to be achieved. As a result, programs and activities should change in structure and content over time as the Spirit of Christ changes us. As He seeks to produce different results and change our role in His purposes, leadership should be responsive. As leadership responds to God programs and activities will change.
This statement of ministry strategy is not all inclusive. The purpose of this expression is to encourage each person in the body at CHCC. Each person is to be encouraged knowing they have great value to others, to be encouraged in the pursuit of being like Christ as each person is led by the Holy Spirit and to be encouraged to serve Christ in their individual mixture of gifts, maturity level and life experiences.
